I was doing something completely unrelated to what I’ve been doing all day (which is filling the site with stuff, see those menus…they actually have stuff) and noticed my backup script is throwing a few errors.
But it’s fine.
rsync error: some files/attrs were not transferred (see previous errors) (code 23) at main.c(1207) [sender=3.1.3]
This is what I saw after executing my backup script by hand for the first time since I wrote it. I was unsure about something in rsync and it was easier (and faster) to just see what happened rather than spend time reading; if I copy a file to the local backup before it’s on the server, will rsync download it?
Turns out the answer is it doesn’t. You’re probably saying it’s supposed to…but I think I just have the command configured in such a way that it’s not. It’s not really a big deal, I wasn’t planning on using it that feature.
But I was a little curious as to what those rsync errors were. Turns out they were strictly about attributes. After looking at the scroll-back, it was unable to set permissions on several files; which isn’t anymore of a problem than the fact it generates errors. I don’t have the cronjob logging, so they just don’t really go anywhere. All the files are still syncing; rsync is just upset it can’t change ownership on some folders.
